About Reusable Cloth Nappies

Re-usable cloth nappies are now a force to be reckoned with! The new generation of re-usable nappies are a great improvement on the old-fashioned nappies of years gone by. They are so easy to use, with no complicated folds and definitely no pins. Don't just take our word for it, parents everywhere are using them and finding them every bit as easy and convenient to use as disposables.

Many people assume that cloth nappies are a lot of work and that parents spend all day in the laundry! People certainly wouldn't use re-usables if it was inconvenient. Washing the nappies is just part of the general washing routine - an extra machine load every other day! Easy!

Our nappy system from Real Nappies is simple to use with thin waterproof wraps used to hold an inner cotton nappy. No pins, no soaking, no fuss. Over the course of two years the cost of using cloth nappies will be approximately $160.00 (plus laundry) every 7 months when you will need to step up to the next size. When you are finished using the nappies, simply pop them in the cupboard for the next baby. This is a wonderful way to look after your baby easily, and also to look after the environment time after time, month after month.

Re-usable cloth nappies look like disposables, but are 100% natural, breathable cotton with a biodegradable liner and are as kind on your baby's skin as they are on your pocket. They are easy to wash, and ultra-comfortable on your little one. Re-usable cloth nappies make it easier than ever to do what's best for your baby and the environment.

Tips for using reusable cloth nappies
* Rashes are reduced if baby is dry, so change a nappy as soon as you notice it has been soiled. Fresh air is important too; let baby go bare for up to an hour each day (this can mean just a few minutes after each nappy change).
* Washable nappies don’t need to be soaked. Follow the manufacturers washing instructions. Generally though, non-soiled (urine only) nappies can be washed at 40C, and the jury is out as to whether 60C is necessary for the soiled ones.
* Do not use fabric softeners on nappies, it reduces their absorbency.
* If you live in a hard water area, put a tablespoon of white vinegar in the rinsing cycle to soften the nappies.
* When storing used nappies in a bucket for washing, sprinkle over a few drops of Lavender oil. It is anti-bacterial and smells nice.
* Hang nappies out to dry, rather than tumble dry if possible.
* Reuse your nappies on your next child.
